Kick-off Meeting for Luminous

On the 16th & 17th of January, 2024, a meeting took place at DFKI in Kaiserslautern to kick-off the European research project Luminous. The kickoff meeting was attended by all the highly-skilled partners of the project (universities, research institutes, & industry partners, and it marked a pivotal moment in the journey towards revolutionizing how we interact with extended reality (XR) technologies through the power of language. This ambitious initiative aims to bridge the gap between human cognition and digital experiences by harnessing Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced XR components to create a language-augmented multimodal platform. Emphasis was placed on the transformative potential of LUMINOUS in various sectors, particularly in remote health services, immersive learning, and interactive entertainment. The discussions underscored the project’s main objective: to empower future XR users with the ability to fluently interact with their surroundings and access a wealth of knowledge sources on demand, thereby opening new horizons in the way we learn, work, and entertain ourselves.
